What Are Dozens & Columns In Roulette?
Most roulette betting strategies involve placing even money bets. However, if you are looking for something different, you may want to try the dozens and columns roulette strategy.
Let's begin by explaining what dozens and columns are in roulette. Depending on the type of roulette game you are playing, the roulette wheel is numbered 0-36 or 00-36. The table layout consists of 12 rows and 3 columns. The first row is numbered 1, 2, 3, and the next row is numbered 4, 5, 6 etc.
These numbers are then grouped in dozens (1-12, 13-24 and 25-36). The columns are the number sequences that go up in increments of 3—for example, 1, 4 and 7.
This means that there are 6 possible bets, each with a 2:1 payout. The bets include:
- 1st dozen: 1-12
- 2nd dozen: 13-24
- 3rd dozen: 25-36
- Column 1: 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31, 34
- Column 2: 2, 5, 8, 11, 14, 17, 20, 23, 26, 29, 32, 35
- Column 3: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36
Roulette Dozens & Columns Strategy
After red/black, roulette's second most common strategy is betting dozens and columns. Dozens and columns have slightly lower chances of landing than red/black, but they offer better payouts, paying out at 2:1 odds.
There are 3 different dozen bets: 1st 12, 2nd 12 and 3rd 12. Additionally, there are 3 column bets: the first column covers numbers 1-34, the second column covers numbers 2-35, and the third column covers numbers 3-36.
Each of the 6 bets covers 12 numbers, just under a third of the wheel. The payout is 2:1. If you use this strategy and bet with £1, you win £2 as well as get your £1 wager back.
There are different ways to use the dozens and columns strategy, but we will focus on the 2 main ones. The first strategy is straightforward. You begin by picking any dozen we mentioned above. Next, place a £1 bet. If you lose your bet, you then implement the following sequence:
1 -1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 6 - 9 - 14 - 21 - 31 - 21 -31 - 47 - 70 - 105 - 158 - 237 - 355
The second strategy involves covering more of the table. Instead of picking 1 dozen, you bet 2 dozen. This strategy has quite a deep progression. To use this strategy, follow this sequence:
1 - 3 - 9 - 27 - 81 - 243
The strategies above are the simplest ones to use. There are so many other strategies that use dozens and columns, including the columns to dozens switcher. The above sequences give the bet amounts in units, and you decide what size the units are.
One other dozens and columns roulette strategy is the columns to dozens switcher. This strategy aims to cover a good amount of the table. This requires covering just under 2 thirds of the table. If you win your bet, you are going to switch between dozens and columns with every bet. If you lose your bet, you repeat your previous bet and triple each outside bet. As you can imagine, this can quickly get expensive.
Does The Roulette Dozens & Columns Strategy Work?
The main advantage of following the dozens and columns strategy is that it is really easy to follow. You simply follow a sequence, so it's a straightforward strategy to use that doesn't require a whole lot of roulette experience.
The most significant disadvantage to using the dozens and columns strategy is that you could have a huge loss if you don't win when following the sequence. Additionally, if you use the second strategy we mentioned, losses can stack up quickly as the progression is very steep.
It may only take a few losses to see a significant loss which may be difficult to recover from. If you use the dozens and columns strategy, it's a good idea to set yourself a stop loss and stick to it. For example, if you use the first strategy, you may decide to walk away if you lose the 70 bet. Make sure to stick to this.
The dozens and columns strategies may work, but as with most casino and slot games, roulette remains a game of chance, with the casino having an advantage over the player, and nothing is guaranteed.
